It is healthy comfort food and a great source of protein. It is a dish made with split peas and cooked with onions, tomatoes, spices, etc. Our dish was prepared with our HomeStyle Pink Split Peas and our Pride of India Spices: Black Mustard Seeds, Garlic Flakes and Mild Vegetable Curry. Ideal for a plant-based, meat-free or vegan diet.

Serves 3-4.
Split Pea Soup - pink


Substitute our HomeStyle Pink Split Peas with our HomeStyle Yellow Split Peas or Green Split Peas.


  • 3 tbsp oil/ghee
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tomato, grated/blended
  • ½ tsp Pride of India Black Mustard Seeds
  • ½ tsp Pride of India Garlic Flakes, rehydrated
  • 2 tsp Pride of India Mild Vegetable Curry
  • 1 cup HomeStyle Pink Split Peas, boiled
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • fresh coriander, for garnishing
  • salt
  • water


  • Soak HomeStyle Pink Split Peas overnight or for a few hours. Add water to cover and boil until soft and smooth.
  • Heat oil/ghee in a pot. Fry onion, Pride of India Black Mustard Seeds and curry leaves. Sauté until onions are translucent.
  • Add Pride of India Mild Vegetable Curry and fry for approximately 30 seconds. Add a little water, if necessary.
  • Add tomato and garlic and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Add the boiled HomeStyle Pink Split Peas, water to cover and bring to a boil. Season with salt.
  • Simmer for 20-30 minutes or until you have achieved your desired consistency.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander.
  • Serve with rice or your choice of flatbread (roti, paratha, naan or puri).
