King Soup, also known as Rasam, is a South Indian peppery hot, spicy, tangy soup. We prepared the soup with our Pride of India King Soup Mix, Pride of India Tumeric Powder, Pride of India Tamarind Paste and Pride of India Dried Chilli. Ideal for a meat-free, plant-based or vegan diet.

Serves 4.
King Soup


  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 3 tbsp Pride of India King Soup Mix
  • 1 tsp Pride of India Tumeric Powder
  • 2 tbsp Pride of India Tamarind Paste
  • 1 whole Pride of India Dried Chilli
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed/blended into a paste
  • 4 sprigs coriander
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 tomato, grated/blended
  • water
  • salt


  • Lightly roast Pride of India King Soup Mix on low heat (do not burn). Grind into a powder, blend with garlic and mix to form a paste.
  • Fry onion in oil until translucent.
  • Add the mixed paste and Pride of India Tumeric Powder. Mix well.
  • Add tomato and tamarind juice from the Pride of India Tamarind Paste (tamarind soaked in 1 cup boiling water and strained). Cook until tomato is soft.
  • Add Pride of India Dried Chilli, coriander and curry leaves.
  • Add 3 cups of water, salt to taste and bring to a boil.
  • Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes. Simmer until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Serve piping hot.
